Sometimes we use more than one or two computers. We use one computer at home, one at our office and maybe a laptop while we travel. Using external storage devices like USB sticks or external HDDs is an old and very frustrating sollution. Sometimes we need to have our data anywhere, from the desktop to the netbook or our pda. Here is where Online Sync Services might come handy.
We tried to find out some good and valiable sync services and these are the ones that caught our eye..
1) Live Mesh (Beta)
Microsoft’s sync service Live Mesh makes you feel you are using an online file manager. The GUI is clean and . You can attach many devices into it. Currently only PC’s are fully supported but Mobiles and Macs are on their way.The only thing you need to do is have a Windows live ID.
Pros:
Free Storage Capacity is 5GB. One of the biggest of all services listed in this article.
Clean Interface.
Remote Desktop features.
Cons:
Requires ActiveX controls which makes it not fully functional in browsers that don’t support activex.
2) Spideroak
SpiderOak offers a different approach to online backup by combining a suite of services into one consolidated tool – free online backup, synchronization, sharing, remote access, and storage. A flexible design allows you to handle data from any operating system (Mac, Windows and Linux) or location (external drives, network volumes, USB keys, etc…) using just one centralized account.
Free Storage Capacity: 2GB
3) SugarSync
SugarSync installs in minutes. It is fast and it supports versions of your files. It supports mobile phones like :
- iPhone
- Windows Mobile
- BlackBerry and more
You can use it for free (2GB) and gain more space if you refer a friend. It also offers paid plans ranging from 30GB to 250GB, and a free trial plan for 30 days.
4) Syncplicity
Syncplicity also supports versions of your files. It allows you to sign up for free and get 2GB of st0rage. The syncing is very smooth and it does not affect the user experience.
5) DropBox
DropBox might be the easiest service to use of all. All you have to do in order to sync your files is to copy a file and paste it into the dropbox folder. You can get a free account and 2GB which can get up to 3GB by refering DropBox to your friends.
6) Docstoc
Docstoc Sync is a simple downloadable application that automatically syncs documents from your computer to Docstoc MyDocs. Effortlessly upload your documents and keep them private for easy access anytime, anywhere. Or publish any document or folder of documents publicly on Docstoc by putting it in your “Docstoc Public Documents” folder from your desktop.
You can even put Google Adsense to public docs and share your earnings with the DocStock service.
We go on with an Ubuntu only service :
7) Ubuntu One
Still under a beta phase, the Ubuntu One service lets all Ubuntu users share and sync their files with others. We are looking forward for the stable version of the service.

Well I’m using Mesh and I love it though it’s a little bit slow to my taste – it’s easy to use and u cand keep track of files versions, choose to shre and more. It’s also very easy to open new folders.
