Analyzing Our Site’s Google Analytics

Jeez.eu was born 2 weeks ago. We appreciate that so many people visited Jeez and commented on our posts. This shows that we are moving on track. So now that Jeez is 2 weeks old, we would like to analyze our statistics from the Google Analytics service.
The date range is : September 2 – September 16

Visitors

12.391 people visited our site. We had 14.737 visits, with 17.525 pageviews. We had an average 1.19 pageviews per user and the average time spent on the site was 00:00:39 seconds/visit. We had a bounce rate of 92.44% and almost 84% of our visitors was new visitors.

We had visitors from 125 countries. Most of our visitors come from the United States (5.780 unique) followed by the UK(930 unique) and Canada (866 unique). This is the top 10:

Browsers

Most of our visitors use Firefox. This is something that we expected because our content is generally about web development. So except Chrome (we thought Chrome would be 3rd or fourth under Opera which is another browser we thought would have a better position) we had predicted the results.

Operating Systems

We see that most of our visitors use Microsoft Windows. This is something we had predicted but we never knew that iPhone/iPod would be on 4-5 place.

Referring Sites

Most of the traffic we got came from sites like dzone,reddit and hacker news. This makes us happy for adding the addtoany button on the bottom of each post. We are happy that visitors from dzone and reddit are more loyal judging from the amount of traffic we get from these sites. This means that some of them might like our content and maybe come back.

What people read

Our article about Small PHP Frameworks was a big hit, since it had more pageviews than the next 2 articles in the list. All of the posts in the following table were promoted by Twitter users (more than 60 retweets for the #1 article according to tweetmeme), and various other sources like blogs and social bookmarking sites.

General Site Statistics

We have 19 posts, posted in 8 categories and tagged with 33 different tags.The most populated category is Tools (12 posts) followed by Services (3 posts). Our posts have been commented 73 times in total and the most commented posts are:

Conclusions

Even if it is too early to make accurate conclusions about our site’s visitors we can already see that most of our visitors are involved into programming in general and to be most accurate, PHP. We also see that a lot of our visitors are using mobile devices to browse. So, some improvements should be made to the site in order to allow them to have a better browsing experience.

Having a button to share things (The addtoany button: ) is a great way to promote articles. We are not satisfied with our bounce rate though. People seem to just read the article and leave the site. Maybe a “Relevant Articles” block would keep our visitors reading other articles.
